In addition, to avoid bruising, we recommend you follow the following pre-care instructions:
- Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, Motrin, Excedrin, fish oil, vitamin A, vitamin E, or other essential fatty acids for at least one week before your appointment.
- Do not drink alcohol a few days before injections.
- To help reduce bruising and swelling, take Arnica, an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medication, orally 3-5 days before your appointment.
Additionally, please disclose all medication usage and inform your provider if you have a history of cold sores.
Lip Injection Recovery and Aftercare
Following proper lip aftercare instructions after your injections is crucial for optimal results and can directly affect the longevity of your fillers. Our expert team recommends you do the following during your lip filler recovery to support your filler aftercare period.
To avoid any complications, we recommend you follow the following post-care instructions:
- After your treatment, refrain from rubbing or massaging your lips or applying lip balm for at least 4 hours.
- When cleaning your face or applying makeup, be gentle! Use gentle, sweeping motions to minimize movement in the treated area.
- To reduce the risk of bruising, avoid strenuous exercise for the rest of the day following your treatment.
- Expect temporary, mild to moderate swelling. Apply a cool, cold compress to the treated area, avoiding excessive pressure.
- It's normal to experience some tenderness at the treatment site for a few hours or, occasionally, up to a couple of days. If you experience mild discomfort, you can take acetaminophen or Tylenol.
- Wait at least 4 weeks before undergoing any laser treatments.
